5 Nutritious Foods You Should Eat MORE Of!
When people talk about eating more healthily, too often they fixate on the foods they shouldn't be eating. You might cut back on sodas or fast food, or you might talk about cutting out certain processed foods. But the truth is, being healthy has very little to do with depriving yourself. Cutting foods out isn't enough. You need to eat, it's just about eating the right food.
So today, let's talk about what you should be eating MORE of! These foods are delicious and nutritious, a sure way to make eating fun for you again. Here are five of the nutritious foods that you should eat more of in order to pursue a healthier life:
#1 - Dark Green Vegetables 🥦🥬
Broccoli, peppers, and rich leafy greens are full of nutrients that can help you be healthier and happier. Greens include higher levels of iron, fiber, potassium, magnesium, and calcium. They're filling, and richly flavorful. With less of an iron deficiency, you may have more energy throughout the day. Try to include greens in at least 3-4 meals per week - if not more!
#2 - Fish (Or Other Omega-3 Rich Foods) 🐠🍣
Fish are some of the best sources of omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3s can help to reduce your risk of heart disease and stroke. They may also help to boost your energy, too, if your heart is healthier. Of course, fish can be an acquired taste. Here are a few other foods that are rich in omega-3s for you to choose from:
- Chia seeds and flax seeds
- Walnuts
- Edamame
- Kidney beans
- Seaweed
#3 - Peanut Butter 🥜
PB&Js are a favorite lunch for kids on a summer day. They're great for a picnic, or just for a day when you want a meal that doesn't take much effort. The good news is peanut butter has a lot of value to your health, as well! Peanut butter has much needed protein, carbs, and sugars (and yes, those are all things you need)! Of course, it's all about moderation, but don't be afraid to add a little peanut butter to your next meal!
#4 - Almonds 🥣
If you want to live a long and healthy life, try snacking on almonds every now and then. Almonds are chock-full of Vitamin E. Vitamin E can help to protect you against both macular degeneration and cataracts, both of which can become more common as you get older. Almonds are a tasty and filling nut. Grab a little bowl as you watch your favorite show or as you work.
#5 - Mangoes and Other Citrus Fruits 🥭🍊
There's something about a juicy mango that just screams summer. Any cool, juicy fruits, in fact, can be a refreshing break on a hot day. Mangoes in particular are high in Vitamin A and C. Oranges tend to be high in Vitamin C, as well, as do mandarins, grapefruit, and pretty much any citrus fruit. It's hard to go wrong!
Honorable Mention: Water 💦🌊
Okay, so maybe it's not a food, but this list truly could not be complete without water. How much water do you drink every day? If it's less than 11.5 cups a day, it's not enough! In fact, that's just the recommended number for women. Men should have as much as 15.5 cups of water each day. Water helps to flush out our system, protecting us from disease and boosting our energy. No matter what your life looks like, chances are you could stand to have a lot more water in your life.
