Too Many Goals, One Season

People who are bad at follow-through get told to do less. People who are good at it never do, because the overload does not show.

You keep five goals moving. All five get attention. Nothing is dropped. From the outside it looks like capability, and it is, which is precisely why nobody intervenes.

What does not show is that all five are moving at a speed that will not get any of them anywhere this year.

Competent is not the same as finishing

There is a pace below which a goal never arrives. It stays permanently in progress, always receiving some effort, never enough to cross anything. It does not fail loudly. It simply stays where it is, for years, while you work hard.

Five goals at that pace feel far more responsible than one goal finished. They are not.

Seasons, not years

The word that fixes this is not fewer. It is season.

A goal given one season, with real weight behind it, tends to move a distance that surprises people. The others are not cancelled. They are queued, which is a thing you already do naturally with everything except your own ambitions.

Three practical moves:

Pick two, not one

One goal is too austere for a Navigator and you will not stick to it. Two is workable: one that matters most, and one smaller thing that keeps a different part of your life moving.

Write down what is waiting

Explicitly. In a place you will see again. Half of the difficulty in cutting is the fear that something will be forgotten, and a written queue removes it entirely.

Give the season an end

Twelve weeks, or until a date you choose. Knowing when the queue moves makes waiting tolerable, which is the whole trick.

What this is not

It is not lowering your ambition. Over three seasons you will have finished three things, which is a better year than five things left in progress, and it is a considerably better feeling in December.
